A report from the Director of Academics

Riverside Academy is a progressive and high achieving Basic School which has served our community in excellence since September, 2006. Our ethos is driven by the slogan; ‘Be the Best: Rise Above the Rest.’

We are a proudly comprehensive and co-educational Basic School, approved by Ghana Education Service (GES), with Pre-school, Primary and Junior High School (JHS) departments. The school offers boarding facilities to final year JHS students in good standing.

From a humble beginning of six pupils and minimal infrastructure on inception, Riverside Academy has made a lot of strides over the years to become a school of high repute in its catchment area and beyond. With thirty classrooms, library, ICT, arts & science facilities and others under construction, our school can hold its head high amongst the best in its category.

Students graduating from Riverside Academy will be successful learners and good problem solvers who know that lifelong learning is the key to personal fulfillment. They will achieve this through being supported by competent teachers who will continually upgrade their knowledge and skills through extensive on-going professional learning.

We have developed positive and respectful relationships amongst pupils and staff that promote well-being and student learning. Thus, we are confident of the future of our pupils as they steadily climb the academic ladder.

Our bi-monthly non-academic Golden Child Award Scheme (GCAS) focuses on these core values: Safety, Respect, Helpfulness and General Comportment. GCAS is supported by all staff with a positive pupil reward program, which acknowledges learner’s achievement.

We provide a staggering number of extra-curricular programs that cover all aspects of school life. Such learning opportunities are provided to support student development and are strongly aligned with the school’s , values and priorities .We have various clubs and groups such as; Science & Maths, Drama/Culture & choreography, French, Art & Craft, Cadet, Choir and others.

Inter-Sectional /UCMAS Activities and competitions, including organized field trips for the various Sections and clubs, to which all pupils and staff belong, strengthen and enhance the sense of togetherness and cooperation among members of the school community. Class based field trips are also organized every term to enhance learning by connecting learners to the real world.

Student reports contain detailed information about individual student’s learning achievements and areas of growth, which provide meaningful feedback for student improvement. This forms the basis for discussion with parents.

Parent-Teacher conferences for Upper Primary and Junior High School pupils will be strengthened and held periodically to provide parents with the opportunity for a more detailed discussion about their child’s progress, behaviour and achievements. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meets each term to support the school, particularly, in taking decisions and helping to chart the direction of the school.

I’m proud of my school and excited about its fine academic and social orientation and the future prospects of its pupils and staff.

Our pioneer class was sent off with a grand Graduation/Speech and Prize-Giving Day on 1st July, 2017 and the tradition has since continued. We say ayekoo to our proud and confident school community for a good job done. Be the best; Rise above rest…
