AN EXCURSION TO THE MALL AND BOBIRI FOREST - #FLASHBACK

On the 4th of October, 2018, pupil of Riverside Academy in J.H.S. 2 went on an excursion to the Kumasi City Mall and then to the Bobiri Forest. All students were expected to arrive in school exactly at 7:45 am.

On our way to the mall, we saw the multimedia group (Joy prime, Luv fm and Nhyira fm) and some Zion Artworks which were very nice and amazing. On our arrival at the mall, we took some pictures before we entered the mall.

When we entered the mall, we were all supposed to shop for thirty minutes (30 mins.). Some people shopped till their money finished but they were not satisfied they wanted to shop more and others shopped a little and some of their money were left. When we finished shopping, we collected our change and receipts before we left to the bus.

On our way to the Bobiri Forest, some people could not resist but eat all what they’ve bought before reaching the Forest. On our arrival, we found out that there was no network at the Bobiri Forest and also we found out that the Bobiri Arboretum has one hectare piece of land with over hundred tropical tree species. Before we went around to see the beautiful creation in Bobiri, we had a brief story about the Bobiri Forest. During the brief story we got to know that the Forest was established on the 11th of November, 1939, and also has a size of 54.52 km. we also found out that there were some frogs there which could not be found in the whole Ghana but only at the Bobiri Forest.

During our tour, we found out there was a tree which was very poisonous during the young age and can kill, and also a tree which women or girls could not touch or you will menstruate or get barren during that point in time. The girls were afraid and that tree is called ‘’DALBERGIA LACTIO ’’ and its local name is called ‘’HOMAHYԐM’’’. We also saw a tree which was very big and tall and during a brief story, the man in charge told us that we will find a tree and the instructor will cut some for each and every one and after tasting we should come and tell him if it was brown sugar or white sugar; but after tasting, we found out it was very bitter and was used to cure malaria and other sickness.

On our way, we also saw a tree which was two hundred and eighty two (282) years and the oldest tree is over three hundred (300) years. We also came across a tree which was called the tree sisters and some of my colleagues climbed it and took pictures.

At the end of our tour, we found out there was a tree called ‘’TRILEPSIUM MADAGASCARIENSE’’ from Madagascar, and it was through some birds which flew all the way from Madagascar and landed at Bobiri Forest. We also found out there were over four hundred (400) butterflies there.

At the end, everyone was happy and we sat at a place to refresh ourselves and indeed everyone got to refresh ourselves and indeed everyone got to know that there were very big trees and tall trees we could ever imagine.

After the refreshment and tour, we all board the bus and went back to school and we all knew everyone learnt something during the excursion.
