At the 46th General Council Meeting of the Church of Pentecost, a Riverside Academy student, Maame Akyaa Oppong of Basic 9, was awarded a certificate for winning a National essay competition last year.
Maame Akyaa Oppong’s essay, titled “Remembering our first Leader; Dr. Kwame Nkrumah”, was judged the best in the competition, which was organized by Joy Learning Essay Club. The certificate of honour was presented to Maame Akyaa by the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who commended her for her outstanding performance and encouraged her to continue to use her writing skills to positively impact society.
Maame Akyaa Oppong also had the opportunity to dine with the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye and top hierarchy of the Church at a large buffet.
Speaking to after the award ceremony, Maame Akyaa expressed her gratitude to the Church of Pentecost and her school for the support they gave her during the competition. She also mentioned that the award has inspired her to continue writing and to use her talent to make a difference in the world.
Maame also acknowledged the support of the Riverside Academy community (students, parents, teacher etc), her Resident Pastor Rev. Charles Akanwi and Eld.Samuel Ntinankor her Sunday School teacher.
The General Council Meeting of the Church of Pentecost is an annual event that brings together members of the church from all over the country to deliberate on issues affecting the church and the nation at large. This year's meeting was held at the Pentecost Convention Centre at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
